Whether it is small rugby or rowing clubs or large well known professional football teams we have experienced it all.
Whether it is small rugby or rowing clubs or large well known professional football teams, we have experienced it all. With football being the most televised sport, we all understand the risks and damage that crowd violence, pitch invasions and restricted items can cause to the general public during sporting events.
Many people do not realise just how much staff in stadiums rely on two-way radios. There is a lot more going on at stadiums then you might think. It is not just big events that are catered for, but smaller events and day to day running of the stadium also rely on two-way radios. If you are managing a stadium, then you have to worry about several different things at once, from security staff to stadium maintenance staff and guests that are on the premises. It requires a lot of organisation and open communication, and that is where radios come in.
If you stop and think about the areas that need covering you would be amazed… such things as stewards which not only cover within the stadium but also carry out security checks before you enter the stadium and car parks. Due to such high-profile people attending such events, bodyguards are also required, and two-way radios offer security for these applications.
Two-way radios for stadiums need to have certain features in order to cater for the needs of running events and managing large crowds of people. Some staff have their radios with them all day long and cover quite a lot of ground, so their radio needs to be lightweight and comfortable to use.
Noise is also a huge issue when it comes to communicating in large stadiums. During a concert or sports game, noise levels can go through the roof, making it hard to give and receive instructions. Therefore, radios used in stadiums need to have noise cancellation, so that staff can always hear each other.
Noise cancellation means that no matter how loud the background noise is, your voice can still be heard via the radio, and you can still hear what your colleagues are saying. This is crucial in high-pressure situations and while managing large crowds as things can quickly get out of control. Lives can be at risk and reliable; fast communications can make the difference between a crisis and a well-managed situation.
Radios used for stadium management also need to be very robust, as they get used for hours on end, and can easily get knocked or damaged in crowds. Reliable radios are a must when you are trying to keep everyone inside a large stadium safe and under control.
Another thing to consider when using two-way radios to manage stadiums is transmission quality and range. Radio signals need to be able to transmit from one end of a very large stadium to the other. The signal often needs to pass through concrete walls plus an enormous amount of noise.
Different teams often function within a stadium, so it is convenient if each team has its own channel. For example, the security team may be on one channel, the parking on another and the hospitality and catering team on another. All these channels can then be managed via a central control system.
